Research Occupational Therapist

Angela Shierk, Ph.D., O.T.R., serves as a senior clinical scientist at Scottish Rite for Children and an assistant professor in the School of Health Professions at the University of Texas Southwestern. She earned her master’s degree in occupational therapy from Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center and her Ph.D. in occupational therapy from Texas Woman’s University.

Dr. Shierk has extensive clinical experience as a pediatric occupational therapist, working in outpatient clinics, inpatient rehabilitation, home health and public school settings. Her research focuses on enhancing upper limb function in children with cerebral palsy through various modalities. This includes investigating the effectiveness of constraint-induced movement therapy (CIMT), with and without virtual reality, therapy following botulinum toxin injections and home-based therapy programs. She is also deeply interested in patient-centered outcomes research and actively engages multiple stakeholders throughout the research process.
