Orthopedic Sports Medicine Fellowship
The ACGME-accredited sports medicine fellowship at Scottish Rite for Children Orthopedic and Sports Medicine Center in Frisco, Texas, combines nationally recognized pediatric musculoskeletal care with the specialized expertise of UT Southwestern Medical Center. Fellows are integral members of the patient care team, gaining hands-on experience through a unique training program that balances individualized mentorship, clinical autonomy and high-volume exposure to advanced surgical treatments.
This fellowship is designed to meet the growing demand for orthopedic surgeons who seek subspecialty training in caring for young, developing athletes. Fellows receive comprehensive training in managing common and complex conditions including ACL injuries, osteochondritis dissecans (OCD), patellar instability, meniscus injuries, hip preservation, shoulder instability and more.

About the sports medicine Fellowship program
FELLOWSHIP OVERVIEW
Fellows are frontline members of the sports medicine care team at Scottish Rite for Children. In addition, they rotate with sports medicine surgeons at the UT Southwestern Medical Center and other adult colleagues for the full gamut of operative sports training. Additionally, the fellow assists in management of pediatric fractures and acute orthopedic conditions at Children’s Health℠ Dallas, one of Texas’ only Level 1 pediatric trauma centers. The Orthopedic Sports Medicine fellows at Scottish Rite will:
- 1:1 fellow-to-staff rotations in a high-volume practice with an innovative and interactive environment that supports learning – a true mentorship model
- Weekly case conference reviewing all sports medicine cases and robust didactic schedule including access to a bioskills anatomy lab

In addition to sports medicine, fellows will have access to exposure to deformity correction, advanced cartilage restoration, hip preservation, arthroplasty, and fracture care.
- A continuity clinic which will enhance fellows experience in autonomy and independence as well as gain experience in peri-operative management.
- Flexibility in order to achieve goals of fellow and future career.
- A robust research support structure including a sports-specific movement science lab and institutional PRO registry for outcome data.
In addition to clinical responsibilities, fellows perform independent clinical research appropriate for scientific meetings and for subsequent publication.

APPLICANT CRITERIA
The fellowship provides the recipient the opportunity to pursue advanced study, in-depth training, management and research in sports medicine, musculoskeletal, and complex injuries.
The fellowship is a one-year program that accommodates three fellows. The fellowship begins on August 1, 2028 and is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME). Residents in orthopedic surgery should apply in their postgraduate year 3 or 4. Others who have completed orthopedic training may also apply.
All applicants must be board-eligible and qualify for a Texas medical license.
