Dr. Hong “Johnny” Zhang is the director of creative innovations for the Sarah M. and Charles E. Seay/Martha and Pat Beard Center for Excellence in Spine Research at Scottish Rite for Children. He also serves as a clinical professor in the department of orthopaedic surgery at UT Southwestern Medical Center.
He earned his medical degree and completed his orthopedic surgery residency at Tianjin Medical University in Tianjin, China. Dr. Zhang’s research focuses on growth modulation for the correction of early onset scoliosis and developing instrumentation for surgical treatment of spinal deformities. Dr. Zhang has published many peer-reviewed scientific papers and holds four patents in the orthopedic field. Dr. Zhang has received numerous awards, including two Best Basic Science Awards from the Scoliosis Research Society and research awards from the Pediatric Orthopedic Society of North America and Chest Wall Spine Deformity Research Foundation. He is a member of the Orthopedic Research Society and the Scoliosis Research Society.
