The Neurology and Rehabilitation Medicine research team conducts studies which are designed to treat and improve the lives of patients with neurological and neuromuscular diseases including epilepsy, cerebral palsy, tuberous sclerosis complex, developmental delays and brain malformations. These studies include clinical drug trials, device trials, biosample repositories, observational studies, natural history databases, treatment studies and genetic testing studies.
Current Studies
The Feasibility and Effectiveness of Therapy Together is an intensive upper limb therapy program for young children with cerebral palsy and their caregivers. Therapy Together is a group-based intensive upper limb intervention for children under the age of 5, who present with unilateral cerebral palsy or are at risk for developing unilateral cerebral palsy.
The Tuberous Sclerosis Complex (TSC) Natural History Database (NHD) and Biosample Repository (BSR) is a multi-center research project including data collected from various institutions. Scottish Rite for Children contributes patient clinical data and biosample (tissue and blood) specimens to the TSC Alliance - sponsored NHD and BSR for future research studies.
The Hereditary Spastic Paraparesis (HSP) Research Database maintains the largest pediatric HSP research database focusing on clinical manifestations, genetic findings and interventions.
The Carter Centers for Brain Research in Holoprosencephaly (HPE) and Related Malformations created a database that contains information on subjects diagnosed with HPE. The goal is to collect data on a large population of patients diganosed with this condition in order to learn more about HPE and provide better care for all children with this disorder.
