What is Baseline Testing?

Sports medicine physician Shane M. Miller, M.D., is passionate about educating others on recognizing and managing sport-related concussions. One tool used in the diagnosis and treatment phases of concussion management is computerized neurocognitive testing. Miller advises that having a baseline is helpful for providers who treat injured athletes.

A baseline test provides a snapshot of the brain’s function before an injury. This includes reaction time, processing speed, memory imbalances, vision and numerous other objective ways to see how the healthy brain works.

In this video, Miller explains more about baseline testing and helps young athletes know what to expect with testing.
