Alexander Cherkashin, M.D.*, is known for his cross-disciplinary work in the fields of orthopedics, outcome studies and data management. After receiving his medical degree at Novosibirsk State Medical University in Russia, he graduated from the residency program at Kurgan Scientific Center under the guidance of Professor Ilizarov.

For the next 12 years, Dr. Cherkashin worked in the renowned Ilizarov Orthopedic Research Center in Kurgan, Russia. While working as head of the hip reconstruction department, he conducted research on the prevention of complications during the application of distraction osteogenesis techniques using computer data management. At the same time, he served on the faculty of the department of continuing medical education at the Ilizarov Center.

In 1995, Dr. Cherkashin joined the research department of Scottish Rite for Children, and six years later became director of the Orthopedic Data Management Lab. His outstanding work led to development of the Ilizarov Interactive Database for analysis of the Ilizarov treatment outcome and prevention of complications. He is widely published and is co-author of two books and 39 book chapters, and author of 44 patents in the areas of external fixation and limb reconstruction. Dr. Cherkashin serves as an assistant professor in the department of orthopaedic surgery at UT Southwestern Medical Center.

Andi is a member of the Pediatric Orthopaedic Practitioners Society (POPS), the National Association of Pediatric Nurse Practitioners (NAPNAP) and the Greater Texas National Association of Pediatric Nurse Practitioners. Her special interests include clubfoot management, foot and ankle deformities and scoliosis.
