Angela Shierk, Ph.D., O.T.R., serves as a senior clinical scientist at Scottish Rite for Children and an assistant professor in the School of Health Professions at the University of Texas Southwestern. She earned her master’s degree in occupational therapy from Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center and her Ph.D. in occupational therapy from Texas Woman’s University.
Dr. Shierk has extensive clinical experience as a pediatric occupational therapist, working in outpatient clinics, inpatient rehabilitation, home health and public school settings. Her research focuses on enhancing upper limb function in children with cerebral palsy through various modalities. This includes investigating the effectiveness of constraint-induced movement therapy (CIMT), with and without virtual reality, therapy following botulinum toxin injections and home-based therapy programs. She is also deeply interested in patient-centered outcomes research and actively engages multiple stakeholders throughout the research process.
Kelly Jeans earned her Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Southern California in Exercise Science and her Masters of Science degree from California State University, Long Beach. After finishing her Master’s Thesis, A Kinematic Analysis of Deep Water Running in Arthritic Individuals, she joined Scottish Rite for Children in 2001, to continue her passion for research.

Over the last 20 years, she has collaborated with researchers interdepartmentally, including orthopedics, Orthotics and Prosthetics, therapy services and with outside organizations. Her career has focused on the study of movement patterns and cardiovascular fitness in clinical populations including clubfoot, lower extremity amputation, cerebral palsy, adolescent idiopathic scoliosis and early onset scoliosis. She also coordinates and manages the clinical service, the Movement Science Lab, has at Scottish Rite for Children. She is a member of the Gait and Clinical Movement Analysis Society (GCMAS) and the Association of Children’s Prosthetic-Orthotic Clinics (ACPOC), where she serves on the board of directors.

Dr. Hong “Johnny” Zhang is the director of creative innovations for the Sarah M. and Charles E. Seay/Martha and Pat Beard Center for Excellence in Spine Research at Scottish Rite for Children. He also serves as a clinical professor in the department of orthopaedic surgery at UT Southwestern Medical Center.

Dr. Jonathan Rios earned his Bachelor of Science degree from Tarleton State University and his doctorate degree in Genetics from Texas A&M University in College Station. After completing… a post-doctoral fellowship at UT Southwestern Medical Center (UTSW), he joined the Division of Molecular Genetics at Scottish Rite for Children (SRC) in 2011.
