Care Philosophy

“We are often the first practitioners to see the child after discharge from the hospital because of the visible upper extremity “difference”. Understandably, families have a lot of questions about the diagnosis and “how it happened.” In addition, the families want to know what the future holds in terms of treatment and long-term outlook. In some cases, conditions are passed through families, so they already have a lot of information about the diagnosis and treatment. If not, our goal is to provide the families with as much information as we can regarding etiology, inheritance pattern and a possible treatment plan for their child. We always strive to allay fears and guilt parents may have regarding the diagnosis as well as provide them information regarding the tremendous support services we have at Scottish Rite for Children including Child Psychology, Child Life specialists, Social Work, peer support, and Orthotics/ Prosthetics. In this way, we are able to support the “whole child” with emphasis on them having a normal childhood leading to a productive adulthood.”
