Amputee Ski Trip Spotlight: Olivia, age 14 of Austin

Olivia, age 14, of Austin, has been a patient at Scottish Rite Hospital since she was a baby. She was born with amniotic band syndrome, a rare condition which restricts the proper development of a baby’s limb or limbs. As a result of the condition, Olivia had the lower portion of her right leg amputated and was fit with a prosthesis. She has great admiration for her prosthetist, Don Cummings, and is even considering a career in the medical field. As a gifted artist, she enjoys crafts, drawing and theater. Olivia is new to winter sports and is excited to master the art of snowboarding on the slopes of Winter Park.
