Recently, doctors and trainees from our orthopedics team were in Orlando, FL attending the 16th annual International Pediatric Orthopaedic Symposium (IPOS). Sponsored by the Pediatric Orthopaedic Society of North America (POSNA) and the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons (AAOS), IPOS strives to be the best educational event in the world for pediatric orthopedics. Specialists from across the country gather to take part in focused lectures, hands-on workshops, surgical skills demonstrations and presentations on various topics within the field.  

Throughout the four-day meeting, several of the hospital's orthopedic surgeons were invited as speakers. Amy L. McIntosh, M.D., Lori A. Karol, M.D., Christine Ho, M.D., David A. Podezswa, M.D., and Daniel J. Sucato, M.D., M.S., participated in panel discussions, served as moderators and led hands-on courses to share their expertise. Topics included the care and treatment of scoliosis, pediatric hip conditions, hand injuries, limb deformity and several others. 

Sucato recognizes the value hospital staff bring to educating others in the medical community. “As leaders in pediatric orthopedics, we have a responsibility to teach other specialists, along with the next generation of doctors, to advance the quality of care to this patient population,” he says. “IPOS gives us a platform to be able to do this. It is a great opportunity for our team to educate and to learn, while also giving our current fellows the ability to connect with other experts from around the world.”
