Get to Know our SRH Staff: Bonnie Ste. Marie, RN Coordinator – Fracture Clinic

Bonnie Ste. Marie is a Pediatric Nurse Coordinator who works with our sports medicine patients specifically in the Fracture Clinic at our Plano Campus. She's been working for the hospital for two and a half years. Learn more about her in our Staff Spotlight below: 

What’s your favorite part of your job? 
Easing the fears of a child before a procedure, and advocating for the families. 
 
What’s your favorite thing about the hospital?  
I love that everyone treats each other with incredible respect and support at every level. There is an understanding that every role is vital to accomplish the best patient experience. It is a great reflection of our leadership! 
 
Describe a typical day.
No such thing as a typical day in Fracture clinic, that’s why I love it! Might see 40 patients, or maybe 65 ;) Never a dull moment. 
 
How long have you worked here?
Two and a half years
 
How did you find out about the hospital? 
I worked with some of the providers at my previous job, and always heard positive remarks about Scottish Rite. I was grateful for the opportunity to join the team. 
 
What made you want to work here?
I heard the popcorn was good. The commitment to research & evidence-based practice is pretty great too. 
 
What skills do you need for your job?
Affinity for the word YES! Patience, Flexibility, Multi-tasking, Critical thinking, and team work to make the dream work. 
 
What was your first job? What path did you take to get here?
Back in the day I was a tutor for middle & elementary school kids. I earned my BSN at James Madison University in Virginia. I started my career in the NICU, spent some time working in a Neuromuscular clinic, until finding my niche with Orthopedics. 
 
What is your favorite…
  • Hospital event: I am a sucker for holiday cheer, so I love all the December festivities
  • Food in the cafeteria: Since we don’t have a cafeteria at Plano campus, I love when Bryan picks up tacos at La Tapatia 
  • Place in the hospital: The Chapel is a special place
 What’s your favorite…?
  • Place to travel: Colorado- mountains are good for the soul
  • Type of food: Breakfast Tacos (bacon if I’m totally honest)
  • TV show: Previously- Newsroom; Currently- Billions
If you could have a super power, what would it be? 
Teleportation & Omnilinguism- Then I could travel around the world and never have to worry about a language barrier.Would help at work too!
 
What did you want to be when you grew up? 
I thought voice overs would be fun
 
What’s the most adventurous thing you’ve ever done?
Spelunking! 
 
What’s the last book you read?
Strong Mothers, Strong Sons
 
What kind of animal would you be?
A hummingbird. If you can fly, you may as well fly backwards too
 
How long is your commute?What do you do on the drive?
About 25 minutes. Today was a James Town Revival kind of day morning
 
What is something people don’t know about you?
I spent an inspiring day with South African Archbishop Desmund Tutu, discussing human rights. 
 
What’s your go-to karaoke song?
Sweet Caroline (it’s the Boston in me!)
