Get to Know our SRH Staff: Emily B. Gale, Psychology

What is your role at the hospital? What do you do on a daily basis?
I am a pediatric psychologist at the Frisco campus. Along with my colleagues at the Dallas campus, we collaborate with the medical team to improve care of children and adolescents with health-related conditions, and in Frisco, sports injuries. I also see patients for various presenting concerns, including pain management, anxiety, depression and many other mental health concerns.
What led you to Texas Scottish Rite Hospital for Children? How long have you worked here?
I initially learned of the hospital at a conference, where Heather Richard, Psy.D., was presenting outcome research on the role of psychology in pre-surgical evaluations. After seeing the available job posting, I decided to apply and was lucky enough to be selected for the position in Frisco! I moved from Minnesota and started in February 2019.
What do you enjoy most about Texas Scottish Rite Hospital for Children?
I really enjoy the collaboration amongst the various disciplines to provide excellent care for children and adolescents. I learn something new every day, and love developing treatment plans for children and families that improve their daily lives and overall wellbeing.
What was your first job? What path did you take to get here?
My first job was in an ice cream store in Alaska, where I finished high school. I went to college and grad school at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. I then matched at the University of Arizona Medical Center for my internship. I landed in Minnesota for fellowship and was hired at Gillette Children’s Specialty Healthcare following my training.
What do you like to do in your spare time?
I love to read, knit and spend time with my rescue dogs. I also love college football (Go Big Red!), traveling and trying new restaurants. I’m obsessed with all things British!
Three words to best describe you:
Independent, thoughtful, ambitious.
What would you do (for a career) if you weren’t doing this?
Tough question! I have many interests, but if I had to choose one, I think I would have gone to medical school with the goal of being a dermatologist.
What’s the most adventurous thing you’ve ever done?
I did a solo trip to Scotland two years ago, I loved it!
