Get to know our SRH Staff: Meghan Wassell, Ilizarov Research Associate

Meet Meghan - an Ilizarov research associate who has been at the hospital for 14 years. Learn more about her in our staff spotlight below:

What’s your favorite part of your job?
I love meeting new people, whether it’s beginning the treatment process with a new patient or assisting a visting surgeon who’s here for training.

What’s your favorite thing about the hospital?
I love the atmosphere that we have here. Everyone always smiles and is willing to help patients/families with any issues that they may have.

Describe a typical day.
My days vary, but I could be found entering data in my lab, setting up demo items for a surgeon training or taking pictures in surgery. Each day is a new adventure.

How did you find out about the hospital?
My mom actually worked here several years ago and she told me that there was an opportunity to work with her boss in the Research department. I interviewed and the rest is history!

What made you want to work here?
I wanted to work with children, but I wasn’t sure exactly what I wanted to do. This opportunity came up and it has been a perfect fit.

What skills do you need for your job?
Computer, photography, people, research, heavy-Lifting, organizational

What was your first job? What path did you take to get here?
My first job was at Six Flags. I was working in the fast food industry and was looking for something in the medical field and the timing worked out.

Flying, I could bypass traffic

What did you want to be when you grew up?
A mom

What’s the most adventurous thing you’ve ever done?
I traveled to El Salvador on a church mission trip.

What’s the last book you read?
"This Is Me-Chrissy Metz" (“Kate” from This Is Us)

What kind of animal would you be?
A sweet puppy

How long is your commute? What do you do on the drive?
My commute is about 45 minutes. I listen to the Kidd Kraddick Morning Show - I have listened to them for almost 20 years!

What is something people don’t know about you?
I lived in Germany as a young child.

What’s your go-to karaoke song?
I’ve never done karaoke, but I bet I would rock some Drake “Hotling Bling.”
