Get to Know our SRH Staff: Jamie Wightman, Athletic Trainer

Jamie Wightman is a athletic trainer who works with our sports medicine patients. Learn more about her in our Staff Spotlight below:

What’s your favorite part of your job? 
Interacting with and taking care of kids.
 
What’s your favorite thing about the hospital? 
The culture and what it stands for.
 
Describe a typical day. 
Seeing patients with the physicians, fitting patients with all kinds of braces, and teaching home exercise programs.
 
How long have you worked here? 
5 ½ years
 
What skills do you need for your job? 
People skills, empathy and passion.
 
What was your first job? What path did you take to get here? 
Assistant Athletic Trainer at UNT, then an Athletic Trainer for a high school for several years before coming to Scottish Rite Hospital for Children.

  • Place to travel: The beach, any!!
  • Type of food: Pizza
  • TV show: This Is Us 
If you could have a super power, what would it be? 
Time travel. I’d love to go back in time and meet my grandfather I never got to meet.
 
What did you want to be when you grew up? 
An astronaut. I thought it would be cool to be shot into space.
 
What’s the most adventurous thing you’ve ever done? 
After zip lining, I had to freefall 70 feet from the tower to the ground because there was no other way down.
 
What’s the last book you read? 
The Boys in the Boat
 
How long is your commute? What do you do on the drive? 
Depending on the day, it can be 25 – 40 minutes. I always listen to “Kidd Kraddick in the Morning.”
 
What’s your go-to karaoke song? 
I try not to sing out loud unless the radio is blasting because no one can hear me, including myself!
