Get to Know our SRH Staff: Jon Heydrick, Community Liaison – Athletic Trainer

What’s your favorite part of your job?
Having the opportunity to educate and inform healthcare professionals, coaches, parents, and kids about ways to prevent injuries and stay active!
What’s your favorite thing about the hospital?
All of the wonderful staff! From the doctors to the volunteers, everyone has been so kind and welcoming.
Describe a typical day.
Each day can be a little different ranging from developing educational material or programs to providing medical coverage for sporting events within the community.
How long have you worked here?
I have worked PRN with the sports medicine team for 2 years, and was hired full-time in July.
How did you find out about the hospital?
I am actually a former patient. I had an injury during my middle school days while playing baseball and was treated by the TSRHC staff.
What made you want to work here?
The incredible reputation of this hospital, the care I received as a patient, and from previous professional experiences working along side the wonderful physicians and staff.
What skills do you need for your job?
Athletic training encompasses preventing, examining, diagnosing, treating and rehabilitating injured athletes. I get to take these skills into the community and promote all the ways the hospital can assist patients and families in need.
What was your first job? What path did you take to get here?
My first job was at UT Southwestern Medical Center and worked as an athletic trainer in the sports medicine department for 3 years. I worked for 2 years as a PRN employee here at TSRHC while going back to school and then a full-time position opened up, and here we are!

  • Place to travel: Colorado, I enjoy getting into the mountains on the snowboard!
  • Type of food: Sushi

If you could have a super power, what would it be?
Definitely the ability to fly.
What did you want to be when you grew up?
A professional baseball player and a pilot.
What kind of animal would you be?
Probably a cheetah, because they are just so fast!
How long is your commute? What do you do on the drive?
About 15 minutes and I like to listen/catch-up on sports talk radio.
What is something people don’t know about you?
I play guitar and piano.
What’s your go-to karaoke song?
Wanna be by. The Spice Girls
