Get to Know our SRH Staff: Louanne Weeks, Weekday Volunteer Coordinator

What is your role at the hospital?
I coordinate the weekday volunteers on the Dallas campus.

What do you do on a daily basis?
I interview new volunteers and then place them in jobs, conduct monthly orientations, manage the popcorn stand and front desk, serve as a liaison with different departments that need volunteers, put together the volunteer newsletter and coordinate volunteers for different special events, including Reverchon Roundup.

What led you to Texas Scottish Rite Hospital for Children? How long have you worked here?
I was a volunteer at the hospital for 10 years before I became a part of the Volunteer Services staff in 2010.

What do you enjoy most about Texas Scottish Rite Hospital for Children?
The kids! Plus, the caring culture among staff and volunteers alike. As a new volunteer, I felt welcomed immediately and noticed the smiles everywhere.

What was your first job?
I was a swimming/canoeing instructor and camp counselor at a Girl Scout camp.

What path did you take to get here?
Service has always been a focus for me. I’ve been fortunate to serve in the public, private and nonprofit sectors. I have worked in the Oklahoma state welfare department as a U.S. Congressional (Oklahoma) staff member. In Dallas, I have worked with the Westin Hotel Galleria customer service and problem resolution as well as with the Dallas Arts District Alliance serving the Dallas dance and arts community.

What do you like to do in your spare time?
I enjoy time with family, friends and pets. I love to garden, travel, dance, cook, hike, swim, scuba dive, read and attend theater and music performances.

Three words to best describe you:
Caring, curious and dedicated.

What would you do (for a career) if you weren’t doing this?
I would be a swim instructor or a park ranger.

What’s the most adventurous thing you’ve ever done?
Both would involve scuba diving - once to 120 feet and another time with sharks.
