Meet Mel - our physician liaison who educates other physicians and their medical teams on our hospitals patient services, procedures and conditions that we specialize in. Learn more about her in our #SRHstaff spotlight below:

What’s your favorite thing about the hospital?

My favorite thing about the hospital is the teamwork mentality and culture SRH has cultivated. Everyone works as a team to ensure our patients and their families walk away with the best experience possible.

What’s your favorite part of your job?

My favorite part of the job is educating physicians and their medical teams on SRH patient services, procedures and conditions that we specialize in. Forging relationships with these offices and helping offer educational support, materials and anything else to create the best pediatric care possible.

Describe a typical day.

A typical day starts by responding to emails before getting in my car and heading to counties in North Texas. I have pediatric clinics, urgent care facilities, family practioners and other orthopedic providers I visit each day. I have copies of our educational literature as well as marketing pieces I discuss with the staff to help their understanding of SRH services and processes for referring patients to us. My goal each day is to continue to educate our current referral sources as well as new ones and provide them with even more reasons to send their patients and families to SRH for specialized care. I also listen to their needs and additional resources they are interested in to increase their patient awareness regarding medical conditions. I also meet with our executive teams and staff physicians to find ways to foster better relationships within new areas as growth expands outwards of DFW.

How long have you worked here?

I have worked for SRH since January 2018.

How did you find out about the hospital?

I had called on the hospital before in a previous role as a medical product rep and also have family who are Mason’s and volunteers.

What made you want to work here?

The culture and team I was joining were exactly what I had been searching for and the opportunity to join SRH and make a positive impact on the care kids receive from us feels like a dream come true!

What skills do you need for your job?

A good listening ear! Patience and the ability to relate to others and situations. A passion for educating and teaching, thinking outside the box and most importantly, exceptional follow up and follow through to build trust and respect.

What was your first job? What path did you take to get here?

My first job was working at a local soccer store and a hostess at a steak restaurant in Columbia, MO. I learned how to build relationships and sell based on providing people with exceptional service.

If you could have a super power, what would it be?

If I could wake up tomorrow with a super power it would be to freeze certain moments in life and have the chance to bring them back when you want to visit them or re-live them for a brief moment. Example, when you want to revisit your kids as innocent children, or your wedding day or a happy, rememberable vacation.

What did you want to be when you grew up?

I always knew I would be in healthcare. I first envisioned becoming a Physcial Therapist for athletes but soon discovered how much I loved the relationship and business side of medical sales.

What’s the most adventurous thing you’ve ever done?

Traveled to Sao Paulo, Brazil and played soccer for 3 months the summer before starting college. It was such an amazing opportunity and I learned how far I could push myself when competing.

What’s the last book you read?

Self to Lose, Self to Find by Marilyn Vancil

What kind of animal would you be?

If I could chose any animal to become it would be a butterfly. They are so free and beautiful and bring peace and joy to people when flying around.

How long is your commute? What do you do on the drive?

My commute can be as little as 4 minutes to main campus or as long as 2 hours depending on where I am going for the day. I travel all over North and East Texas to visit our referring providers. When in the car I listen to country music and on longer commutes I like to catch up on phone calls to family & friends back in Missouri.

What is something people don’t know about you?

Working out and cooking for people are two of my passions.

What’s your go-to karaoke song?
