Get to Know our SRH Staff: Ricky Jones, Orthopedic Technician

What is your role at the hospital? What do you do on a daily basis?
I work in the Fracture Clinic as well as with the Sports and Orthopedics clinic. I put on casts, splints, boots and slings. I also remove casts, pins and soft boots, help patients with crutches and walkers, and help transport patients. My hope and prayer is to give patients back their lifestyle – allow them to play, smile and have the same energy they had before they came to see us. It’s important to me that I treat every patient as if they were my own family.
I always want to be of service at the hospital. It is a wonderful place to work and you can’t help but to a have a smile in your heart when you walk into the building. The energy here is important - kids can be crying and then smiling, scared and then the next time they see you, they will run up and give you a hug. To me, Scottish Rite Hospital stands for “FAMILY”. I believe that the Fracture Clinic team is amazing. It is a blessing to be a part of something that God put in all of our hearts - caring for others.
What led you to Texas Scottish Rite Hospital for Children? How long have you worked here?
Prayers, blessings and Mrs. Lee Prater answering my call. I’m thankful for the year and a half that I have been working here.
What do you enjoy most about Texas Scottish Rite Hospital for Children?
Everything – the children, parents, staff, doctors, providers, atmosphere, beautiful lights and the smell of popcorn.
What was your first job? What path did you take to get here?
I’ve had a wonderful and long career. I started off as a busboy many years ago. After that, I worked at Baylor Medical Center for 20 plus years. I then worked at Presbyterian Hospital Dallas and Presbyterian Hospital Plano for a total of 14 years, then moved to the University of Oklahoma Medical Center for 1 year, and then Sutter Health Palo Alto for 4 plus years. I believe that I am still learning and I still love what I do.
What do you like to do in your spare time?
Workout, watch movies, chill, dance, cook and listen.
Three words to best describe you:
Caring, loving, believer
What would you do (for a career) if you weren’t doing this?
Coach basketball
What’s the most adventurous thing you’ve ever done?
I drove nonstop from San Francisco to Dallas, only stopping to fill up for gas. I will never do that again!
