Get to Know our SRH Staff: Stan Whittenberg, Environmental Services

What is your role at the hospital? What do you do on a daily basis?
As the Director of Environmental Services, my role is to provide overall direction and management of the daily operations of the EVS and Laundry Services departments. I’m responsible for ensuring that we deliver strong operational performance and compliance with appropriate infection prevention, safety, OSHA, Joint Commission and CMS regulatory standards. These standards are monitored by completing continual assessments and implementation of new methods so we can provide optimal services that ensure an aesthetically pleasing, and safe environment for our team members and guest.

The EVS department's primary goal is to make sure that cleanliness is maintained. As our name implies, we also help coordinate a broad range of other services campus wide - event setups, inner office moves, warehouse storage, laundry services and whatever else is needed.

What led you to Texas Scottish Rite Hospital for Children? How long have you worked here?
I was introduced to the hospital by a friend and I have been here for 21 years.

What do you enjoy most about Texas Scottish Rite Hospital for Children?
The culture is what I enjoy most about the hospital. No matter the situation, this place has always remained true to its values and mission of doing what is right and best for the kids. Not only that, but this organization also takes really great care of its employees, which makes it a great place to work.

What was your first job? What path did you take to get here?
My first job was as a return to vendor representative at Nichols Department Store. There was no career oriented or goals path that led me here. I believe my path here was simply directed by fate.

What do you like to do in your spare time?
I like to tinker or just relax when I can, but I mostly spend time with my daughter – all things volleyball.

Three words to best describe you:
Versatile, self-confident, reserved

What would you do (for a career) if you weren’t doing this?
I would most likely be involved in local politics/government.

What’s the most adventurous thing you’ve ever done?
The most adventurous thing I’ve done is hot air ballooning over the Carolinas.
