Get to Know our Staff: Don Dowling, Pharmacy

What is your role at Scottish Rite for Children?
I am a staff pharmacist and work to provide excellent service for all of the patient’s medication needs.

What do you do on a daily basis or what sort of duties do you have at work?

  • Verify inpatient orders
  • Fill outpatient prescriptions
  • Help technicians where needed
  • Counsel doctors and nurses
  • Admit patients with medication reconciliation
  • Special projects

What was your first job? What led you to Scottish Rite? How long have you worked here?
I first worked at a retail pharmacy in Wichita Falls. I then spent many years with a large pharmaceutical company with many hospital products. An agency sent me here 18 years ago and I've never left.

What do you enjoy most about Scottish Rite?
The families. It is such a pleasure to help them with their needs.

What energizes you outside of work?
Travel

What’s the best advice you were ever given? Who was it from?
My grandfather told me to always find something in common with your customer.

What’s the top destination on your must-visit list?
I have had some wonderful trips all over the world, but I have not yet been to South Africa. It is a beautiful part of the world and on my list of places to visit.

What’s one hobby you’d love to get into?
I tried golf as a young man. My game was to hit the ball and then try to find it. So, it wouldn’t be golf. I’ve had boats, so I would say more travel.
