Get to Know our Staff: Dulce Rubio, Child Life

What is your role at the hospital?
As a program coordinator in the Child Life department, I plan developmentally appropriate activities in the Child Life playroom for the patients who are staying in the inpatient unit. I also train volunteers, manage non-monetary donations, schedule group visits with those who are interested in volunteering in the playroom, plus administrative responsibilities for the department.

What led you to Texas Scottish Rite Hospital for Children? How long have you worked here?
I love working with children. My role is a great mix of being able to work with kids, plus management and administrative duties. I have been at the hospital for a little over a year.

What do you enjoy most about Texas Scottish Rite Hospital for Children?
I enjoy seeing patients become healthier and as a result, see them doing more of the things that they love to do.

What was your first job? What path did you take to get here?
For my first job, I was a cashier at Domino’s Pizza. I attended Texas Woman’s University and earned a degree in Family and Consumer Sciences. I was a teacher assistant in Dallas ISD and then a lead teacher at The Family Place. I decided to look for something new and saw this job opportunity online. Coming to work at the hospital was the best decision ever!

What do you like to do in your spare time?
I like to find and explore fun places around Dallas with my boyfriend and family.

Three words to best describe you:
Compassionate, Responsible, Perseverance

What would you do (for a career) if you weren’t doing this?
On a realistic day, I would be a teacher. If I’m dreaming, I would be a professional violinist.

What’s the most adventurous thing you’ve ever done?
My mom and I are planning a trip to Honduras - where half of my family is from.
