Get to Know our Staff: Erasmo Salinas, Engineering

What is your role at Scottish Rite for Children?
I am an engineering technician, and I am responsible for maintaining the extensive heating, air conditioning and ventilation systems.

What do you do on a daily basis?
I make sure the boilers, pumps, condensers, generators and compressors work properly. I also make adjustments and regularly check safety devices. Since we never close, there must always be maintenance workers on staff just as there are health care providers.

What was your first job? What path did you take to get here or what led you to Scottish Rite?
I worked at a health clinic as an administrative assistant and then at an endocrinologist office as a front office person. I had a desire to continue working in health care, so I applied to Scottish Rite for Children. I was a supervisor in Environmental Services for two years, and then spent four years as a supervisor in Laundry Services. I have now been in the Engineering department for a little over three years. All in all, I have been at Scottish Rite for a little over nine years.

What do you enjoy most about Scottish Rite?
The great atmosphere of being around great coworkers and staff members. I also enjoy learning how to fix things.

What’s your favorite place to eat around here?
I love seafood - I eat all that I see. After growing up with 10 siblings, I am not picky, and I enjoy all types of food.

What’s something—big or small—that you’re really good at?
I really care for other people. I am in that type of environment. I like to encourage others by smiling and saying kind words. It’s contagious and I find others doing the same thing. I look forward to coming to work each day.

Do you have a pet? What’s he/she like?
No pets for now, but in the past, we have had a goldfish and a miniature hamster.

Is there something that has made you smile recently?
I work around a lot of comedians and I can't help but smile.
