Get to Know our Staff: Eric Washington, Security

What is your role at Scottish Rite for Children? How long have you worked here?
I am a security officer at the Frisco campus. My average day consists of protecting staff, patients and visitors as well as ensuring that the campus is secure. Other duties include patrolling the building and the grounds, monitoring all activity in and out of the building, and our department also works to help prevent possible vandalism, theft, fire or other disturbances on the campus. I've been at Scottish Rite for almost two years.

What do you enjoy most about Scottish Rite?
Working with my coworkers! I enjoy my job because everyone shares the same vision and we are all dedicated to the mission. This truly creates a family environment where everybody is there for one another. My team has created a light-hearted atmosphere and I look forward to going to work each day.

What was your first job? Why did you decide to do the work you are doing now?
My very first job was as a waiter. I then moved into federal law enforcement and after 25 years, I retired. I knew that I wanted to find another career in public service, and that is what led me here to Scottish Rite.

If you could snap your fingers and become an expert in something, what would it be?
I would learn more about biotech and that industry.

What advice would you give to your younger self?
I would advise my younger self to never give up and stay focused.

What’s something you saw recently that made you smile?
Our patients.

What’s your favorite sport to watch and which team do you root for?
Football is my favorite sport and the Jacksonville Jaguars is the team I cheer for!

What three words would your friends use to describe you?
Honest, humorous, smart
