Get to Know our Staff: Gwen Robinson, Inpatient Unit

What is your job/title your role at Scottish Rite for Children?
Inpatient Unit Secretary

What do you do on daily basis?
I’m the first face families and staff see when they step off the elevator onto the 3rd floor inpatient unit. I run the daily office, clerical and reception activities on the unit.

What was your first job?
I spent 16 years working at St. Paul Medical Center and was laid off. I faxed my resume over to Scottish Rite and was called in for an interview the very next day. The recruiter told me that my resume spoke for itself, and I was hired as an admissions coordinator. I worked in the Medical Records department for five years and then transferred to the inpatient unit. As of April 2, 2022, I will have been here 25 years.

What do you enjoy most about Scottish Rite?
I love when our patients smile. I also love the warm welcome you feel as you walk into the building. And after 25 years, I still have that feeling.

Tell us something about your job.
The kids and families call me Big Momma.

Aside from necessities what one thing could you not go a day without?
Smiling and encouraging someone.

What is something that always makes you smile?
I can’t help but smile when I see the miracles that take place here. I also smile when my patients come back to see me!

What’s one fun fact about yourself?
I’m a faithful member of Third Avenue Missionary Baptist Church, and I sing in the choir.
