Get to Know our Staff: James Anderson, Sports Medicine

What is your role at Scottish Rite for Children?
As the lead medical assistant (MA) in Frisco, I make sure we have appropriate coverage across all ambulatory care clinics and support the team in many other ways. I spend the majority of my time in our busy Sports Medicine clinic to help keep the patients moving through their multi-step visits efficiently.

What do you do on a daily basis?
The majority of my day is spent working in the Sports Medicine clinic in Frisco, primarily doing patient intakes and making sure the patient is having the correct imaging done. My teammates and I work to make sure clinic flows as seamless as possible, while providing the Scottish Rite care that our patients expect and deserve.

What was your first job? What led you to Scottish Rite? How long have you worked here?
My first job was my senior year of high school – I worked at Foot Action and sold athletic shoes. I always wanted a job working with athletes, although I didn’t know in what capacity. I’ve been blessed to work with the Sports Medicine team from the very beginning. This May, I will have been with this team for 18 years.

What do you enjoy most about Scottish Rite for Children?
My co-workers are amazing people and I’ve known some of them for many years. I’ve seen them get married, have kids and then watch those kids grow up. It’s like having a second family. I can tell you that my team makes me who I am, on a daily basis. I see how hard they work, and it pushes me to work harder for them, each and every day. I wouldn’t trade them for anyone.

What’s your favorite place to eat around here?
I love BBQ. Point me in the direction of good BBQ and I’m on my way. They better have a good bark on the brisket.

What’s something—big or small—that you’re really good at?
Sarcasm!

Do you have a pet?
No, my daughter is terrified of any animal that comes in a 50-yard radius. Trying to convince her to have dinner on a restaurant patio is quite the chore when birds are around.

Is there something that has made you smile recently?
Getting to see my daughter sled in the snow for the first time was a lot of fun. We made some good memories.
