Get to Know our Staff: LaQuesha Scott, Managed Care

What is your job title/your role at Scottish Rite for Children?
I am the managed care credentialing team lead within the Managed Care department.

What do you do on a daily basis or what sort of duties do you have at work?
I lead the team and facilitate all aspects of credentialing, re-credentialing and monitoring progress for medical staff and allied health practitioners who have contracts with Scottish Rite. That means I ensure there’s compliance with accrediting and regulatory agencies in regard to credentialing, while developing and maintaining a working knowledge of statutes and laws. I also assume the lead role in facilitating communication with the health plans, physicians, administrative support staff and contracted groups representing Scottish Rite.

What was your first job? What path did you take to get here or what led you to Scottish Rite?
My first job was as an administrative assistant at the Texas Department of Health and Human Services. The path I took to get here started almost 20 years ago. In order to become a knowledgeable professional in my field, I’ve strived to learn more about credentialing and other aspects of health care at each of the different health care systems where I’ve worked. When the opportunity to work here came about, I was excited to embark upon a new journey.

What do you enjoy most about Scottish Rite?
Not only observing but also being a part of all the great things our staff does to give the children back their childhood.

Tell us something about your job that others might not already know.
We are a separate department from Medical Staff Services. They grant privileges to the medical staff and allied health practitioners, while the Managed Care department credentials the medical staff and allied health practitioners for network participation with the health plans that Scottish Rite is contracted with.

What was the last thing you read?
People Can’t Drive You Crazy If You Don’t Give Them The Keys by Mike Bechtle

What was the best vacation you ever took and why?
Negril, Jamaica because I really enjoy the food, shopping and entertainment this location has to offer.

Do you collect anything? How did you start?
I collect race medals and bibs. I started collecting them when I started running many years ago.

Do you play any sports or instruments?
I love to run. I have run several 5ks,10ks and half marathons all around Texas and surrounding states. I am a member of Half Marathon Maniacs and had to run two half marathons a week a part to get into the club! My most memorable half marathon was when I raced internationally in Negril, Jamaica, back in December 2015. I ran my biggest race in October 2019, the Bank of America Chicago Marathon. When COVID hit, I took a break from travel racing, but I am looking forward to getting back into it!
