Get to Know our Staff: Lauren Lamb, Radiology

What is your job title / your role at Scottish Rite for Children?
I am an MRI technologist and a radiologic technologist.

What do you do on a daily basis or what sort of duties do you have at work?
I alternate between working with patients who are having and MRI as well as those having X-rays. When a patient is going to have an MRI, I speak with the family/patient to help them understand what is going to happen during the procedure. This is a great time to help settle any nerves or uneasy feelings they may have. Our Child Life department is wonderful and definitely helps make this process easier. The patients are also screened to make sure that they don’t have any contraindications (something else that would prevent us from moving forward with the procedure). During the scan I to set up optimal parameters for the patient and the images. I collaborate with the radiologists before the scan is complete to make sure no additional imaging is needed. For X-rays, I bring them back to the exam rooms and position them appropriately for the given tests. The images are then sent to the physicians.

What was your first job? What path did you take to get here or what led you to Scottish Rite? How long have you worked here?
I was a cosmetologist for eight years before I decided to go back to school for medical imaging. I enjoyed building great relationships with my clients, but after a while the work became unfulfilling. My mom is a sonographer, and I’ve always been interested in the medical field. She was the reason I looked into this career, and I’ve now been here for three years.

What do you enjoy most about Scottish Rite?
I enjoy the community that we have here. When I did my MRI and X-ray clinical rotations, I was able to see different work environments. Scottish Rite has a uniquely positive work environment, and there are no slackers on the team. Everyone works hard, pitches in and helps one another.

What energizes you outside of work?
I love traveling! Discovering new places and different lifestyles outside of your own bubble is such an awesome experience.

What’s your favorite memory?
I have family from upstate New York. When people hear ‘New York,’ many would associate it with the big city, but upstate New York is not that. My family lived in the country, and it was absolutely gorgeous. The land was covered in vineyards and there was a large cherry tree that grew next to their house. During the summer, my sister and I would pick cherries and sell them at a roadside stand. It’s hard to pick just one favorite memory, but this one gives me very happy feelings when I think about it.

What three words would your friends use to describe you?
I had to ask my best friend for help on this one. Her response was ‘classy, logical, dedicated.’
