Get to Know our Staff: Lisa Allen, Radiology
What is your role at the hospital? What do you do on a daily basis?
I am one of three nurses in the Radiology department. We work with the radiologists, anesthesiologists and radiology techs in MRI, CT, ultrasound, fluoroscopy and a few other areas. My job is to welcome the patient and their family to our department, reduce anxiety and provide excellent care to them so that we get good pictures to help our doctors and surgeons make the best treatment plan for each patient.
Why did you decide to do the work you are doing now? How long have you worked here?
I’ve worked at Scottish Rite for Children for just over 10 years. I grow more and more passionate about this amazing place the longer I work here. There’s no place else like it. I am lucky to work with a talented group of radiologists and anesthesiologists who are wonderful teachers and treat me kindly as a peer and respect me for my nursing knowledge and experience.
What is your favorite thing to do when you’re not working?
At the beginning of 2020, I took on a personal project of taking one picture each day to capture the beauty of Scottish Rite in a slightly different way. I consider it a love letter to Scottish Rite. I love coming to this beautiful campus every day and I’ve always made a point to search for beauty wherever I am. It’s easy to do at Scottish Rite. I spend about five minutes taking a photo on my iPhone, might do a quick edit and then post on Instagram.
I hope this encourages more people to notice the beautiful things around them.
What are you currently watching on Netflix?
Nothing at the moment, but I'm interested in watching The Pharmacist. I binged the Peaky Blinders and Mad Men series.
What would be the most amazing adventure to go on?
I'd love to go to Kathmandu, Nepal. I have my eye on a two week Annapurna Sanctuary Trek that follows centuries-old traditional paths used by Tibetan traders to the Annapurna Base Camp in the Himalayan Mountains. I'd like to combine this trip with medical mission work led by Narayan Shrestha, founder of Helping Hands Health Education. I met Narayan over thirty years ago in Boulder, CO and have dreamed of working with him ever since.
What are some small things that make your day better?
I choose to wake up happy and I try to keep that going throughout the day.
