Get to Know our Staff: Louise Hamilton, Orthopedics

What is your job title/your role at Scottish Rite for Children?
I am an administrative assistant in the Orthopedics department. I assist three physicians with their administrative activities, such as completing medical staff reappointment applications, paying dues for memberships and a myriad of other activities.

What do you do on a daily basis or what sort of duties do you have at work?
Mostly, I react to emails, phone calls and requests for the medical staff.

What was your first job? What path did you take to get here or what led you to Scottish Rite? How long have you worked here?
My first job after graduating from college was at Scottish Rite for Children, or as it was known back then, Texas Scottish Rite Hospital for Crippled Children. I started in November of 1982. I worked in medical records for about five years. I then transferred to Orthopedics to be the administrative support for Dr. Birch. After five years there, I moved to work with Dr. Herring in 1993. I continue to work with Dr. Herring, but now work with Drs. Rathjen and Podeszwa as well. I have been at Scottish Rite for 40 years.

What do you enjoy most about Scottish Rite?
There are two things that have kept me returning for so long. The first is the organization’s mission of helping children and their families whether they can pay or not. The second is the people I work and interact with daily.

Tell us something about your job that others might not already know?
I am kind of the unofficial office historian. I have also helped with the past three updates to the Tachdjian’s Pediatric Orthopaedics textbook.

Where is the most interesting place you’ve been?
The National Cemetery in Arlington, Virginia.

What is your favorite game or sport to watch and play?
My favorite sport is the sport my kids are playing at the time. Now that they are adults, it is probably football.

If you could only eat one meal for the rest of your life, what would it be?
Cheeseburger and fries.

What’s one fun fact about yourself?
I love to bake. I supply the office with baked goods regularly.
