Get to Know our Staff: Nicole Allen, Anesthesia

What is your job title/your role at Scottish Rite for Children?
I am an anesthesia technician on the Frisco campus.

What do you do on a daily basis or what sort of duties do you have at work?
During surgery, I work with the anesthesiologist to properly position the patient and then ensure this correct posture is maintained throughout surgery. I also help manage our equipment to ensure it stays in excellent condition. Before and after each case, I make sure everything is properly sterilized and calibrated, and provide routine maintenance. I maintain our inventory and order supplies to make sure the anesthesia area stays stocked.

What was your first job? What path did you take to get here or what led you to Scottish Rite? How long have you worked here?
I entered the medical field as a certified nursing assistant when I was 16 years old. I worked in the ICU, the emergency room, burn units, labor and delivery and medical surgery units. In 2006, I was asked to shadow an anesthesiologist and after doing that for 4 years, I knew I had found a position in the medical field that I truly loved. I moved to Frisco in 2012 and learned about  Scottish Rite from my peers. Everyone spoke highly of the organization and said it is a great place to work. I have been at Scottish Rite for 11 months and look forward to many more years with this amazing organization.

What do you enjoy most about Scottish Rite?
There are so many things I love about Scottish Rite. I enjoy working with our amazing anesthesia providers, the care they give to each patient and patient family is outstanding. I also love our great team environment. We all work together to make sure the patients and physicians have everything needed to safely take care of the patients.

Tell us something about your job that others might not already know.
As an anesthesia tech, you must be ready for changes and be flexible. We work with several doctors and have a variety of tasks.

What is your favorite game or sport to watch and play?
I’m not a huge sports fan, but I will watch The University of Oklahoma and Dallas Cowboys football games with my husband. I’m more into fashion than football.

What’s one fun fact about yourself?
I had a women’s ministry for a few years. One day, I would like to open a safehouse and shelter for women.
