Get to Know our Staff: Shannell Smith, Laundry Assistant and Jackie Devers, Laundry Supervisor
What is your job title/your role at Scottish Rite for Children?
Shannell: My job title at Scottish Rite is Laundry Assistant.
Jackie: I am the Laundry Supervisor at Scottish Rite for Children, and my role is to make sure all the Laundry department’s duties are handled.
What do you do on a daily basis or what sort of duties do you have at work?
Shannell: On a daily basis, I dry and fold the linens and process the linens for the laundry carts to go up to the floors.
Jackie: My duties are to dry and fold laundry, fill up the laundry carts and then distribute clean linens to all the different floors.
What was your first job? What path did you take to get here or what led you to Scottish Rite? How long have you worked here?
Shannell: My first job was working for McDonald’s at the age of 13. After working many other jobs, I realized that I wanted to work around children. I have been working for Scottish Rite for 26 years.
Jackie: My first job was working at Popeye’s when I was 15 years old. After working jobs when I was younger, I started working at Methodist, but I soon realized that I wanted to switch to a different hospital. Shortly after that, I joined Scottish Rite where I have been happily working for 26 years.
What do you enjoy most about Scottish Rite?
Shannell: The thing I enjoy most is talking to the kids and seeing how most of them have respect for one another.
Tell us something about your job that others might not already know.
Shannell: Something about my job that others might not know is that laundry is hard work.
Jackie: Others might not know that instead of it being hot because the dryer is on, it’s always cool.
Where is the most interesting place you’ve been?
Shannell: The most interesting place I have been is Las Vegas.
Jackie: The most interesting place that I’ve been is Miami. I love hanging out on the beach with my family.
What is your favorite game or sport to watch and play?
Shannell: My favorite teams to watch are the Dallas Cowboys and the Texas Rangers.
Jackie: I like to watch the Texas Rangers, and I love playing spades with my family.
What’s one fun fact about yourself?
Shannell: I love to shop!
Jackie: One fun fact about me is that I love to hear my grandkids sing and I love to see people happy.
