Get to Know our Staff: Stacey Walker and David Moton, Anesthesiology

What is your job title/your role at Scottish Rite for Children?
Stacey – I am the lead anesthesia technician.

David – I am an anesthesia technician. In a nutshell, we care for all things anesthesia related.

What do you do on a daily basis or what sort of duties do you have at work?
We assist anesthesia providers before, during and after surgery in caring for their patients. Our day begins with us setting up anesthesia gas machines and carts for surgery. Once the procedure is complete, we prepare for the next surgical case.

We’re also responsible for ordering and maintaining anesthesia supplies and equipment, in accordance with anesthesia department policies. We make sure the anesthesia supply carts are fully stocked, we check and replace the anesthesia gas tanks, disassemble used anesthesia equipment and disinfect the machines and supply carts. We also replace used products and prepare transducers.

What was your first job? What path did you take to get here or what led you to Scottish Rite? How long have you worked here?
Stacey – My first job was as a retractor holder during surgery and then I became an anesthesia tech. I’ve been doing this for 36 years.

David – When I was 15, I worked with Tennessee Valley Youth Conservation Corps. I started training to become an anesthesia tech in the early 90’s and I’ve been at Scottish Rite for 3.5 years. I look forward to many more.

What do you enjoy most about Scottish Rite?
Stacey – I really love getting to take care of our patients.

David – There are three things that I enjoy most about Scottish Rite. First, our patients. What more needs to be said? Second, the work that we do. Lastly, the people. From our volunteers to our staff members, nothing but the best.

Tell us something about your job that others might not already know.
Stacey – This can be a very intense job. We arrive at the hospital very early in order to get everything prepped and ready for cases we have that day.

David – Anesthesia techs must be flexible and adaptable.

What is your favorite game or sport to watch and play?
Stacey – My favorite sports are basketball and football.

David – I can’t pick just one favorite! I play a variety of sports and enjoy being able to compete in multiple activities.

What’s one fun fact about yourself?
Stacey – I love to cook and once I retire, I plan to open my own barbeque restaurant.

David – I enjoy riding skateboards!
