Gia - BMW Patient Champion

Since 2007, the Patient Champion program has enlisted Scottish Rite Hospital patients to help encourage and cheer on runners in the BMW Dallas Marathon. This program is a way to highlight some of the wonderful kids the marathon generously supports each year. We’re excited to introduce you to Gia!

Gia, age 11, of McKinney, is a student at Bennett Elementary School in McKinney and has been a Texas Scottish Rite Hospital for Children patient since 2009.

Gia was born without arms, has a leg difference, dislocated hips and scoliosis. She is a patient of Chief of Staff Emeritus, Dr. Tony Herring, plus a patient in the prosthetics department for her shoe lifts, scoliosis back brace and her prosthetics.

Her favorite thing about the hospital is the food! She loves the popcorn and visiting all of her friends in the cafeteria.

Outside of the hospital, Gia enjoys spending time with her family and loves to play video games. She enjoys drawing, coloring and one day hopes to become an entertainer. Her favorite movie is The Greatest Showman and she loves to sing and dance. Gia loves to make her friends and family smile!
