Share Your Story: In Great Hands
Meet Aiden, a patient who is treated by our experts in the Center for Excellence in Hand. Learn more about his journey below.
Blog written by Aiden's mother, Jessica, of Longview, TX.
Aiden has been a patient at Scottish Rite for Children since he was just 6 months old. He is an active two-year old little boy that is full of energy, just like his twin brother Jayden. The day the boys were born is when we discovered that Aiden had amniotic band syndrome and was missing fingers on both his right and left hands. Twin brother, Jayden, was born without the condition.
At the boy's newborn pediatrician appointment, our doctor referred us to Scottish Rite. As a first-time mom and new parents to twin boys, we had many questions and were scared, not knowing what the next steps would look like. We immediately left Longview and headed to Dallas. As soon as we arrived at Scottish Rite, I was amazed at how welcoming and kid-friendly everyone and everything was.
Aiden was 6 months old when we first meet Dr. Oishi and his first surgery, on both hands, was right before he turned 1. The outcome of this surgery was amazing - Aiden is now able to grab things and has a full index finger on his left hand. He will have additional surgeries as he grows, but I know that he is in great hands with Dr. Oishi. With every day that passes by, he continues to show improvement and progress.
My husband and I are very thankful for Scottish Rite. To see my son have fingers and knowing that he can be a kid, is all made possible because of Scottish Rite. Since day one, we have felt like family. This place is our home away from home and I have referred friends, who have kiddos like mine, and they too have fallen in love.
