Meet Noah - a patient who was seen by our spine experts. Learn more about his journey below.
Blog written by Noah's mom, Diana.
When I learned that my son, Noah, needed spinal fusion, I was determined to find him the best of the best. I googled best orthopedic pediatric hospital in the country, and to my surprise I found that Scottish Rite for Children was ranked No. 2 in the entire country! We live in Houston but happily travel to Dallas for Noah's care.
During the summer of 2020, Noah had his spinal fusion surgery at Scottish Rite, and he is under the care of Dr. McIntosh. From the first moment we arrived at the hospital, every single staff member and volunteer we came into contact with was happy to help in any way possible.
As we prepared for his surgery, one of our main concerns was what his life would be like after the fusion. His overall health and healing were our main priority, but Noah was also very eager to be able to return to band. He has always been resilient, but the bounce back he made following surgery was outstanding. Noah eased into practicing his xylophone, and in the spring of 2021, he auditioned and made the honor band, even earning a xylophone solo in one song. At the end of the school year, he was named “outstanding percussionist of the year.”
He is currently in his senior year of high school and serves as the front ensemble section leader within the band. He works hard in his advanced placement classes and is currently in the top 11% of his graduating class. Following graduation, he hopes to attend the University of North Texas College School of Music.
