Share Your Story: Audrey's Recovery

Meet Audrey, a patient seen by our Sports Medicine experts. Learn more about her journey below.

Blog written by Audrey's dad, Kris, of Dallas, Texas.

Audrey tore her ACL playing in a high school soccer game in February of this year. Audrey was already a patient at Scottish Rite for Children Orthopedic and Sports Medicine Center and had previously seen Dr. Chung, of the sports medicine team. So we knew exactly where we needed to take her for this knee injury.

An ACL tear like this can be scary for both the patient and their family, but from the minute we walked in the door, we were made to feel right at home by the staff at Scottish Rite for Children. Every person that we came in contact with was professional, kind and caring. The overall calm demeanor put our family at ease during this most difficult time.

Audrey is an athlete and wanted to return to competition following recovery. We understood that ACL reconstruction surgery was our only option. When the time came to schedule Audrey's surgery with Dr. Ellis, we were once again blown away by our daughter’s patient experience.

Dr. Ellis rearranged his schedule to accommodate Audrey's school calendar and we were able to schedule her surgery for the first day of her spring break. Audrey having that week to recover - both mentally and physically - was magical. This was a huge mental boost for our daughter.

Audrey is now six months past her surgery and although she has not yet been cleared to return to soccer, she is back to cheering with her squad at Richardson High School. Through the trial Audrey faced with her ACL tear, she now has an appreciation for surgeons, like Dr. Ellis. She is incredibly thankful that eventually, she will be able to participate again in her true love - soccer.

We have been blessed by the staff and volunteers at Scottish Rite for Children and highly recommend this facility to anyone who wants their child to feel as if they are being taken care of by angels.
