Share Your Story: Making a Difference

Meet Josh - a patient who was seen by our spine experts. Learn more about his journey below.

Blog written by Josh's mom, Kim of Southlake, TX.

My son, Josh, was a patient of Dr. Johnston. I recently received a letter from Scottish Rite for Children letting us know Dr. Johnston is retiring and I wanted to let him know what a difference he and Scottish Rite have made in Josh’s life.

Josh was born with congenital kyphosis. With Dr. Johnston’s advice, Josh had spinal fusion surgery 12 years ago. Making the decision to schedule this surgery on our 5-year-old son was one of the hardest things my husband and I have had to do. Dr. Johnston provided Josh with excellent care and the surgery was life changing. Josh is now 17 years old, 6’2” and a very successful high school basketball player in the metroplex. He plays for his high school varsity team and this year scored over 500 points, was the Star Telegram Player of the week, awarded All-District First Team, All-State Tournament Team, Newcomer of the Year and All-State Second Team. None of his accomplishments would have been possible without Scottish Rite. Dr. Johnston, nurse Sherri and everyone at Scottish Rite - from the bottom of my heart, thank you.
