Share Your Story: Nothing Less Than Exceptional
Meet Ty, a patient seen by our spine experts. Learn more about his journey below.
Blog written by Ty's mom, Allie of Richmond, TX.
Our son was diagnosed with infantile scoliosis when he was 7 months old. At that time, his curve measured 18 degrees. We live outside of Houston and our doctor advised us to just wait and monitor the curve. By the time Ty was 14 months old, his curve had progressed to 28 degrees. He received his first scoliosis cast in Houston and over the next couple of months, despite being casted, his spinal curve continued to increase. We were devastated to learn this news.
I met a friend through an online infantile scoliosis support group and this friend is who told us about Scottish Rite for Children. We made an appointment and Ty was able to see Dr. Johnston. He received his following four casts at Scottish Rite, as well as the braces he slept in for the next year.
Despite everything that Ty has been through, he still loves to visit Scottish Rite. When I think of everything that the organization has done for my family, as well as the hundreds of other families, it brings tears to my eyes. There is truly no place like it and it will always hold a special place in our hearts.

We are forever grateful to Dr. Johnston and everyone at Scottish Rite for treating our son and helping to give him the quality of life he deserves.
