Meet Gracie - a patient who was seen by our spine experts. Learn more about her journey below.

Blog written by Gracie's mom, Mari.

Gracie was diagnosed with adolescent scoliosis in 2017. She had a pretty major double spinal curve and before we came to Scottish Rite, we had even been told that she needed immediate surgery.

We are incredibly thankful that we were able to get into Scottish Rite for Children and meet Dr. McIntosh. We decided not to immediately do surgery, and Gracie started wearing a scoliosis brace and doing intense physical therapy sessions. She spent a total of 26 months, 20 hours a day wearing her Boston brace. I believe that wearing a brace and doing physical therapy allowed her to stay active and do what she loves most – competitive cheer.

Her cheer team recently competed in “The Summit” at ESPN Wide World of Sports. This is the largest and most prestigious cheer competition in the world, and her team won! Scottish Rite, Dr. McIntosh and our physical therapist Courtney have all worked together to give Gracie the opportunity to live her best life!

We are so thankful for Scottish Rite and Dr. McIntosh. Not to mention, we are incredibly proud of Gracie’s perseverance and positive attitude. Throughout this process, she has accomplished other goals, became CPR certified and completed an OSHA training course. She even aspires to become a nurse one day!
