Dr. Sophia Ulman earned her Bachelor of Science in Engineering degree from Duke University, and her Masters of Science and Doctorate degrees in Engineering with a concentration in Biomechanics from Virginia Tech under the NIOSH Training Fellowship. Dr. Ulman joined the division of movement science in 2019, and is an assistant professor in the department of orthopaedic surgery at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center. Her research focuses on lower extremity injuries and conditions, including anterior cruciate ligament injury and patellofemoral instability, as well as risk factors associated with sport specialization and overtraining. She is heavily involved in the Pediatric Research in Sports Medicine (PRiSM) society, specifically in her roles as the Chair of the Sport Specialization Research Interest Group, member of the Injury Prevention Research Interest Group, and Chair of the Diversity Committee.
