Share Your Story: Not Slowing Down

Meet Krew, a patient seen by our multidisciplinary team of experts. Learn more about his journey below.

Blog written by Krew's mom, Lauren, of Valley View, TX.

Our story began a little over a year ago when our 2-year-old son Krew was involved in a tragic lawn mowing accident. At the time of the incident, Krew was transported for emergency trauma surgery and Dr. McIntosh was our surgeon. Following this initial trauma and his surgery, we continued to go to Scottish Rite for Children for his ongoing care.

After his surgery, we came to the Frisco campus, where Krew is seen by Dr. Gill, orthotics & prosthetics and physical therapy. They have all been nothing short of amazing and accommodating throughout this life altering experience. For our son, and our entire family, we could not have asked for a better group of people to guide us through this new challenge. While this accident did take our son’s leg, it has not slowed him down one bit. He loves playing in his sandbox, playing with his three older siblings and cousins, and most of all, he can’t wait to play baseball, just like his older brothers.

His injury has even allowed our family to become closer and as Krew grows and progresses, so do we. He has weekly physical therapy sessions and his hard work and determination continue to give me hope. I know that he still faces many different obstacles, but with Scottish Rite by our side there is nothing Krew will not be able to do.

Scottish Rite means the world to us. From the very beginning of this journey to where we are now, I cannot brag enough about everyone at Scottish Rite. In a time where we were unsure what the future would hold for Krew, Scottish Rite gave us hope.
